560 KMON has now learned the name of the man shot and killed last week by Great Falls Police.  He is 49-year-old Dan Sangrey who has a long criminal past dating back to 1994 in Montana.

Last week, Great Falls police were attempting to arrest Sangrey south of town on a no  bond warrant when he reportedly started to flee on foot.  We are learning that he had a gun and reportedly pointed it at police before he was shot and killed.

We reached out to D-C-I for any information on the autopsy and this is the response we got from Spokesperson Emilee Cantrell:  "At this time, we don’t have details to provide as DCI is still conducting their investigation and awaiting formal examinations and conclusions from the Medical Examiner’s Office. Once the investigation is complete, DCI will draft a report and provide it to the county attorney’s office."  We reached out to Cascade County Attorney Josh Racki and he says it will probably be a month before he gets that report.

Sangrey has been in and out of the Montana State prison system since 1994.  He served time out of Cascade County on Burglary, and two convictions for theft.  He was sentenced to 94 months on the Cascade County Charges.  He was then sentenced to 120 Months in prison out of Yellowstone County on a drug charge in 2016.  He served part of that time before he was released.

The coroner in this case is Dick Brown out of Petroleum County who will now have to conduct a Coroner's inquest before a live jury.  That should happen some time next year.  The name of the officer or officers who shot Songrey have not been released.
