What Is Legally Allowed To Burn In Your Great Falls Fire Pit And What Is Considered A Legal Fire Pit?

The City of Great Falls is happy to let us have fire pits, but they're are very specific parameters around the fire pit and what can be burned in them. Click here to see everything from the city. I'll give you a rundown here:

  • Purchased fire pits must be UL listed and come with a spark arrestor
  • Hand dug pits are only allowed if lined with approved fire proof materials. The pits have very specific size parameters. You can see those here
  • Non-portable fire pits have to be at least 25 feet from structures
  • Legally, only firewood and charcoal are permissible for burning
  • Propane or natural gas fire tables need to follow manufacturer's specifications
  • Have a fire extinguisher or water source near by
  • Never leave the fire pit unattended or without an adult supervising
