In my personal opinion, I would say the movie industry has done more damage to what the public's perception of being incarcerated is than any form of good. Now, that isn't to say that our penal facilities don't have troubles either.
But I feel that many times, good things that help inmates who made a mistake and want to better themselves fall completely through the cracks. Especially when those amends are helping communities

At the Montana Department of Corrections, the Montana Correctional Enterprises division is the outlet offering inmates the opportunity to learn a new skill to re-enter society with once their debt is paid to society.

"Idle hands are the devil’s playthings." - Benjamin Franklin
Instead of idle hands, inmates can work in the furniture or upholstery areas of the MCE. And the work they are creating is, simply put, incredible. Recently, the two divisions came together to help the Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Stevensville, Montana; those results are stunning.
Pews, Lectern and Even an Alter Part of Refurbish of Church in Montana
Inmates worked in conjunction to create 38 new pews, two ADA compliant benches as well as two guards for the Stevensville church.

Kudos to those inmates putting in the work, and I hope that more instances of these types of great things coming from our penal institution(s) continue to be highlighted.
