If there is one thing that I have learned about life in the time that I have been kicking it around the sun, there is never enough storage to be had.  And it doesn't matter where we are talking about either.  Bedroom; never enough closet.  Kitchen; never enough cupboards.  Bathroom; no place for towels.

And of course, the garage.  Where there is never enough storage for all the toys, projects, cars and whatever else my wife decides should live within it.  So, having an attic was a must when our garage was built 5 or 6 years ago.  And to get at it, I had an attic ladder installed.  But a major recall from a prominent manufacturer had me worried I would be replacing it much sooner than I anticipated.

How to Check if Your Attic Ladder is Recalled and Unsafe in Montana

The new recall involves Louisville, Featherlite, Lite & Century Attic Stairway Ladders with gas struts.  The units under the recall were sold to the public from November 2012 through July 2026 for between $170 and $600.  The recall affects over 1.7 million ladders within the United States and over 10,000 in Canada.

The ladders were sold by retailers to include The Home Depot, Lowe’s, Do It Best, Orgill, and other retailers nationwide and on-line at Amazon.com during the above timeframe to consumers.  The recall affects several different models of the brands including 22.5, 25.5 and 30.0 inches wide and 54 and 60 inches long and ceiling heights ranging from 7 feet 8 inches up to 12 feet.  Your brand and model number are located on the inside of the attic door.

Reason for Recall and How to Get Replacement Parts in Montana for Your Ladder

The recall is centered on "the bolts on the attic stairway ladders can break while in use, posing a risk of serious injury or death from fall hazard."  So far there have been 11 reports of a bolt breaking, including one report of an injury to the neck, head and back.
