Last week we were all witness to a rare occasion.  Maybe not that rare for some, but most of us don't get the opportunity to see the Norther Lights from our front yards here in Great Falls.  The light display was being captured from cell phones and instantly everyone's social media feeds light up.  I did get to see the Northern Lights, but I did not know we were expecting to see them.  I was one who saw the posts and then ran outside to check it out.

There are ways to know in advance that the Northern Lights are coming.  There is an app for that!  In fact, there are many different apps for that.

The first one that popped up in Google Play was My Aurora Forecast & Alerts.

There is a ton of great information and pretty easy to navigate.  I'm still amazed on everything our cell phones can do.  Pretty much everything is at our fingertips.

So, now I have an app that.  With some fair warning I think I could have planned on taking a drive to a more secluded area to witness the beauty of the Northern Lights.  I have to say that I have never seen so many cars on Bootlegger Road.  But I have seen so many amazing photos on social media and I thank you for getting the better shot and sharing the photos.

Here is one of the pictures I took on my cell phone.  Fair warning, I didn't capture the Northern Lights like I wanted to but I ended up doing some cool stuff with my exposure and capturing taillights along a dirt road.  That is another story.
