Planned Testing and Maintenance at Calumet in Great Falls Soon

There will be some extra activity around Smelter Avenue in Great Falls, Montana over the next few weeks.  Those extra personnel and vehicles will be part of Calumet, Inc. conducting routine maintenance and testing.

The refinery made the announcement through social media and a press release, with dates for the exercises set to begin on March 11, 2026.  Residents and businesses in the surrounding areas may hear alarms as tests are conducted through the day.

Planned Testing and Maintenance at Calumet in Great Falls Soon

The testing at the refinery is part of routine maintenance that is "essential to maintaining our safety and environmental performance" according to Mariah Mandt, General Manager at Calumet Great Falls.

Mandt wanted to assure residents and businesses that these are only tests, stating that "routine inspections and upgrades help us sustain reliable operations, enhance environmental compliance, and limit unplanned events. We appreciate our neighbors’ understanding as we complete this important work".

Tests and Maintenance Help Keep Emissions in Check, Reducing Flare Ups

Ms. Mandt also pointed to recent data regarding flare ups at the Calumet Refinery in Great Falls.  Because of those tests and maintenance, the refinery saw a "significant reduction in flaring compared to last summer".
