I will be right up front with you about this.  I am not an Apple anything user.  My first "smart" phone was on the android platform, and I've never looked back.  Or forwards for that matter. But I am getting up there in age, and to be honest yet again, I'm stuck in my ways and hate change.

But a cool feature for Apple products intrigued me when a friend said they lost their phone but used the "Find My" feature and the mystery was solved without a headache or much loss of time with it.  However, that same headache saving feature can also cost you that very same phone or product.

That's right.  It isn't just your iPhone that the "Find My" feature is on.  Most of the company's products have it.  And I admit, the number of times I have lost a phone or tablet makes me want to check it out.

But what happens when you remove (even mistakenly) from the feature?  Well, unfortunately, that turns your phone or product into a free, unlocked item.  Usable by whomever may have access to it.  Or even sold on the open market.

I Think I Will Continue to Use the "Will You Dial My Phone" Feature on My Android

In learning a little about the feature, I stumbled on a Reddit post about how quickly once removed, your phone can be anywhere.  It described a phone being stolen in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The victim reported receiving a text message asking them to remove the device from the "Find My" feature.  Once removed, thieves were able to access the device for wiping and resale.  Incredibly, the device ended up across the world.  Literally.  In China just a few days later.

Experts recommend leaving the feature on as long as you own the phone or Apple product that is registered.  Once out of your possession, you can safely remove it.  For me, I think I will continue to be stuck in my old ways and continue to use my android.  I can always use the "Honey, will you please call my phone because I left it somewhere" feature for now.  It works great 69% of the time all the time.  Except when the ringer is turn off.
