I am not what you would call a "frequent flier" by any means.  So, when I do fly, there are rules that catch me off guard the once a year that I do take to the wild blue yonder for lands afar.

One that did surprise me as I began preparations to leave on vacation was in regard to cell phones or vaping accessories.  Thank goodness my wife keeps tabs on me before I embarrass myself too badly in the Great Falls International Airport.

Real ID May Have Led to Some Not Knowing These New Regulations in Montana

Over the last several months, many of us have heard about the Real ID kicking in May 7, 2025.  As Montana has been a holdout on this ID system, we received a few extra reminders which may have led us not to hear about these new regulations.

Pretty much everyone has a cell phone these days, and maybe an extra battery for it, just in case.  We always have a charger with us as well.  But for the extra we bring on vacation, where should it be packed?  Your carry-on or your checked baggage?

7 Items Related to Your Phone or Vaping You Must Put in Checked Luggage

The new rules from the Transportation Safety Administration regarding chargers, batteries and power packs is pretty straightforward:

• Electronic smoking devices are allowed only in carry-on baggage.
• Spare (uninstalled) lithium ion and lithium metal batteries, including power banks and cell phone battery charging cases, must be carried in carry-on baggage only.
