New Mini Moon Details
Earth has received a recent visitor from outer space.
No, we're not talking to aliens or little dudes with antennas sticking out of their heads, but instead, a tiny chunk of an asteroid belt.
This little piece from the Arjuna asteroid belt will hang around in the night sky for about two months, likely until November 25th.
The mini-moon is said to be extremely small in size and will only be visible with professional telescopes.
Researchers believe that it is only about 33 feet wide.
Given our clear and dark night skies, we should have a good chance of seeing it here in Montana.
According to astronomy.com, two researchers from Ciudad Universitaria in Madrid discovered the mini-moon.
After discovering the mini-moon, Carlos de la Fuente Marcos and Raúl de la Fuente Marcos named it 2024 PT5.
If you hope to see PT5, don't snooze too long because the next time it makes its way through the earth, the sky will be in 2055.
