I was googling around the internet over the weekend and came across a story about Great Falls that blew my mind.  I have only been in Great Falls four years and I wondered, if this was truly Great Falls deadliest day ever,  than why have people never talked about it.  It's because the story I found is not true.  As it turns out,  the story comes from the website,  fandom.com.   It is a part of WikiLeaks and the website lets people write stories that are hypothetical  and not true and someone wrote a story about a huge tornado that swept through Great Falls on June 28, 2009.

The story goes like this.

A line of storms began to form over the Montana-Idaho border sweeping east.  The Squall line began to form into supercells.  A tornado, EF4 I might add, approached the city from the west and at 5:45 that afternoon in 2009 it made landfall.   The story says winds were 165 miles per hour as the storm hit Great Falls.  The tornado passed over the highway and destroyed the U.S. Post Office downtown.  The story goes on to say that several vehicles were thrown into the air and several other downtown buildings were destroyed.

The storm was on the ground for six miles andd was 600 yards wide as the fake story goes. Over 100 buildings were destroyed,  41 people died and another 95 were injured.

The story even put out a fake weather alert which is below.

The national weather service has issued a tornado warning for cascade county in Montana until 6:30 PM at 5:37 PM trained storm spotters reported a funnel cloud. This dangerous storm was located about 5 miles west of Great Falls, moving east at 25 mph. The tornado will be near, Great falls by 5:55 PM. For your protection move indoors and stay away from windows. please report tornadoes to the national weather service.

Thank god this never really happened in Great Falls but can you imagine all the people that read the story thinking it was true.  I almost fell for it until I did some investigative work.

The story even had pictures which made it look very real but what got my attention eventually was none of the buildings in the story looked familiar.
