Montana Invites Public Proposals For Wildlife Safety Improvements On Roads
We all know, or should be aware of at least, that there are a lot of wildlife-related accidents on Montana's roads.
The Montana Wildlife & Transportation Project, a joint collaboration between two state agencies and an advocacy group, is looking for proposals from the public on what can be done to address that.
What is the Montana Wildlife & Transportation Project?
The MWTP is a joint effort between MT Fish, Wildlife & Parks, the MT Department of Transportation, and Montanans for Safe Wildlife Passage.
The goal of the group is to make Montana roads safer by finding ways to reduce the number of incidents where drivers and wildlife have up close or near miss encounters with each other.
What's going on?
The group is now accepting applications from the public for suggestions for projects to accomplish that goal.
The application period is open until the end of the month. Then, MWTP will go through and evaluate the submissions.
Starting next year, applications will be accepted year-round. Simple projects that don't require a great deal of investigation and study, like posting more signs, will reportedly be reviewed by MWTP as they come in. The more complex proposals, that do require some degree of feasibility study, will be revied every year in April, with final decisions made by the end of June.
Sounds great! What do I do?
So if you've had an idea in the back of your mind on how to lower the number of accidents on our roads involving wildlife, here's your chance. Check out the application process and give serious thought to submitting your proposal.
