It's not easy to live and work in Montana; it can be a cold and isolated place to call home.
I've heard Montana referred to as "poverty with a view." Lack of money can sure make one depressed, but sometimes it is factors out of our control that contribute to our sadness.
Travel A Lot, a travel website, says they've compiled data that allows them to determine what states are "sad."
What Life in Montana Really Feels Like for Locals
Travel A Lot looked at reports from both WalletHub and America's Health Rankings, which factored in things like crime, unemployment, affordability, and healthcare, among others.
While they didn't rank the states by sadness, they did point out Montana was the most depressed, saying,
Montana has one of the highest depression rates in the nation, with a prevalence of 23.5%. The state's vast rural areas contribute to social isolation and limited access to mental health services. Economic factors, including lower income levels and higher rates of poverty in certain regions, also play a role in the high depression rates.
