Summer is nearing its end, and pretty soon students across Montana will be trading in swimming pools and late nights for backpacks, classrooms, and early mornings.

While starting school each fall means different things to different families, it's also a good time to take a look at how our schools where our kids will spend most of their days over the next nine months are doing.

Right now across the Big Sky, teachers are getting their classrooms ready. Parents have started back-to-school shopping and are getting ready for another year of homework, school activities, sports, and everything else that comes with having kids in school.

Everyone plays a part in making a school successful, even the students.

In preparation for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year, U.S. News & World Report released its rankings of the best high schools in America, giving us a chance to see which schools received the highest marks here in Montana.
