The Great Falls Bike Mystery Lives On
Every year my folks come to visit us for Christmas, and this year my dad hit me with a question I am not sure anyone actually has the answer to.
He asked, “What’s the deal with those bikes on the log in the river?”

When my dad asked, my honest answer was, “I really don’t know, and I don’t think anyone else does either.”
At this point, we are coming up on nearly five years of those bikes sitting out in the Missouri River, and I don't think Great Falls is any closer to knowing who put them there or why.
That is, unless the person behind it has quietly come forward and explained the whole thing, and I somehow missed it.
Still Waiting For Answers In Great Falls
In 2020, ABC Fox Montana spoke with GFPD Captain Doug Otto, who was a lieutenant at the time, about the incident:
“I'm not sure if they'll get removed or what the deal is. I can't even tell if it would be a violation of any sort. Nobody got hurt, we had nobody call in distress so somebody was able to get them out there without any problems.”
Whether it is an art project, a memorial, or just someone having a little fun watching people speculate, it has definitely become a unique part of the Great Falls landscape.
